Sportline 1.5 TSI engine tune/remap.

Some might want VW Group to guarantee the factory engine management that can be trusted in each and every vehicle with a 1.5 TSI before they void the manufacturers warranty by remapping.

Has anyone remapped the 1.5t? What sort of results?

Check out TVS Engineering. They're based in the Netherlands but they have authorised dealers/workshops around the UK (and the world) that can install the remap for you.

They have a good reputation for both their engine (ECU) remapping and also their DSG (TCU) remapping. They have different stage tunes (ie - Stage 1, 2, 3 etc) or they can do a custom tune based on your requirements. Here's a link to their website for your particular engine:

https://tvsengineering.com/tuning/skoda-karoq-2017-1-5-tsi-150hp-tuning/

They post regularly on their Facebook page about the results they are getting with customer's cars:

Here's a sample of customers' cars (1.5TSI) that they have tuned:

Karoq Sportline

Golf 7.5

Celtic Tuning also provides a tune for the 1.5TSI but I don't have any experience with them. Here's a link:

I have a TVS Engineering Stage 2 ECU remap and Stage 2+ DSG remap on my Sportline 2.0TSI and am happy with the results.

There's very little remapping info here in the Karoq section of Briskoda - it's a vehicle that very few seem interested in tuning (which is totally fine), or those who have remapped aren't saying much about it. You may find more info/experiences in the Performance and Tuning section:

The issue might well be that those Leasing or with a car on finance are not going to be invalidating the warranty.  Them those buying and owning the car are concerned on running a DQ200 DSG without any warranty.  Even if the Software Update from TVS might well have a more reliable box.  As their engine management might also have a better running, more efficient and less likely to issues than the factory map.

Don’t bother.

Or did you buy the wrong car?

Why?

And in my experience no.

FWIW I've remapped most of my VAG cars, none because I bought the wrong one, more often the right one.

@stever750. You were a bit lucky with the one you were leasing and remapped and that needed a new turbo.    When people own a car they really can do pretty much as the please. When others own it some care needs taking if invalidating the manufacturer's warranty.

I was, but like most things it pays to ask questions first. Do your research and diligence, and then make an informed decision.

It's his car, if he wants to remap it let him.

If you don't agree with his opinion don't bother responding

@stever750, what questions did you ask first.  Was it, will remapping your car matter to you?

That's a question to ask yourself before you ask the manufacturer anything, and is a personal decision which requires no further explanation. The more pertinent question should be can I afford the consequences if my engine breaks, because whatever anyone claims, it will increase the mechanical and financial risk. How much is a bit of a guess, so in my case it measures at 25% probability.

@stever750

That is indeed the question everyone needs to ask themself.

It always surprises me someone saying they are waiting until a warranty expires before doing something,

or those as someone said today about a new car and fitting a tuning box because they can remove it if there is an engine fault.

They can and then try what basically is an insurance fraud as warranties are insurance.

Following e-Roottoot's post above - how many people doing this also tell their insurers?  If you don't, you are then driving illegally without valid insurance.  A removable tuning box is no excuse.   If you're happy to pay several hundred ££ tuning your motor, why won't you spend a fraction of that on an increased premium?

In my experience, everyone that I know in real / virtual life has put in place full disclosure, but then that's probably because I'd unlikely want to be matey with the kind of folk that think it's OK to be a chancer. Forums like this tend not to attract that sort of person tbh, and those that aren't hopefully haven't researched it sufficiently to avoid their motor exploding long before they became a 3rd party liability.

Hi stever750, same in my experience too, but I recall posts around five years back when I got my 220 vRS Octavia there were more than a few who took a cavalier attitude to this.  One of the reasons I avoided the forum for a long time. That and the inability of posters to (a) bother searching properly (or even at all) when needing advice and (b) starting new topics with ridiculously vague headings, or even just to announce that their new car had landed at the dockside.  Sadly there's only been a slight improvement in these areas.

Personally I don't give a flying fig if the engine explodes, that's between them and their bank balance. But if they crash and injure someone or worse while uninsured they deserve everything the law throws at them.

Hi Guys

I have a Superchips remap on my 1.4 TSI 150 manual Yeti.  The car is out of warranty so no problem there.  I have about 180hp and the torque increase is 25%.  The extra torque makes the car much more driveable and the car is more economical.  I use Shell  Vpower or Tesco 99 and the low down pulling power is noticeably better that 95 octane.  I told my insurers and they charged a bit more but were happy with a 20% increase in power.  I currently use Directline and had no problem with previously Aviva either.

I thoroughly recommend Superchips.

Hope this helps

PS would have bought a 2.0 litre if they did one - got my eyes on a Karoq
