Oil consumption - 1.5 tsi

Featured Replies

Morning all,

We have had our 1.5 TSI SE Drive Karoq (manual) for about three months now. The car is on 8k miles and was bought at 5k miles.

We are really enjoying the car, apart from the extremely annoying 'kangaroo' issue in first gear and ocassionally second!

A few days ago the check oil level light come on so my partner took the car to her Father who works at a Skoda dealership near us to have a look. The oil level was quite low and below the minimum level mark so he topped it up.

It now makes me wonder, does the car consume a lot of oil? I appreciate that cars (however new) will go through oil but even my mk1 Fabia / previous 6n polos held oil better than this. Also, should the warning light come on as soon as the oil hits the minimum level as i believe the oil was quite a lot under the minimum level (car is parked on flat ground).

Thanks in advance.

James

There are 2 software updates to cure ( in most cars) the kangarooing and second gear hesitancy, check whether they have been carried out.

What was the oil level at the last time you checked, how long/ how many miles ago was that, and has it gone down considerably since then?

Did you check the oil level when cold.

I haven’t had a Skoda since 2000 (3 Fabias, Citigo, superb, 3 Yetis and now a Karoq) which have ever needed an oil top up between services, both petrol and Diesel engines.

Possibly not enough was put in at previous service?

James is speaking about the 1.5 TSi which are prone to using oil in between services.

Around 1 lite per 10,0000 Kilometres on average according to other VAG forums.

Have you ever owned a 1.5 TSi?

Maybe your SKODAs have been over filled with oil at here previous services.

A friend at work has just put 300ml in a 5000 mile 1.5 SCALA.

That other forum stuff on average use is interesting.

But Briskoda is also a forum, and might use Miles more than km. & there are plenty running 1.5TSI's.

People really should read the Owners Manual.

The use of more Oil in the first 5,000 km has been there for decades, but this can be true.

the May use as much as 0.5 litres per 1,000 km is an arse cover and has been there for years. It is not the acceptable oil use under normal use, what ever that is.

Checking cold, and then checking the way the Owners Manual tells you to, as in at Normal Operating Temperature / Hot.  not warm.

That is after a few minutes, 10 or 15 or 30 is not a 'few'.

The cars oil level really needed to be checked and known at 5,000 miles to know if it had the correct quantity in.

But then the gent that works at the Skoda Dealership knows that.

Who knows if it is using much oil if they have no idea when there was the correct level in.

A few of the many threads on 1.5TSI's and oil.  then there are all the ones asking what the correct oil is,

well that is VW508 00 /509 00, so 0w 20 FS IV.
