Skoda Skala warranty and poor customer service

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

It's Been a while since I've posted anything but I have a problem with Dumfries Skoda service department and the warranty I have with my car.

So...I bought my wife a new pre registered Skoda Scala during lockdown, the car had a 100% flat battery from sitting outside for over a year, the car had 6 miles on the clock.

We paid for it via bank transfer and when we picked it up it was green with algae from sitting, the dealer didn't even wash it.

We've had issues with various warning lights and malfunctions, different systems but not limited to lane departure warning, the radio screen is blank, car won't start. Yellow triangle warning light comes on now and again, there have been other issues with other systems and the culprit is the battery.

We've tried to get this replaced under warranty but the dealer in Dumfries says the battery is good, I don't agree, I tested the battery myself and it comes up poor / replace.

I've sent in a couple of emails to Dumfries Skoda and they are not getting answered, I'm getting ignored, my wife is having to get the train into work as the car won't start, battery voltage is 10. Something volts. I keep having to charge the battery and she can't use the car as once she got stranded as the car wouldn't start.

I sent a tweet to Skoda and I never got a response from them.

I'm not kidding, I feel very badly let down by Skoda, not just the Dumfries dealership but Skoda as a whole.

It seems to be a couldn't care less attitude all round and I am gobsmacked at the lack of professionalism at the Dumfries dealership and Skoda UK.

I'm thinking now just to buy a battery myself and then go through small claims court for the battery and all the hassle we have had. Its not the money or the cost of the battery, its the fact we have a warranty and the Dumfries dealership won't honour it.  They say the battery is good when clearly it isn't. They also tried to charge us a diagnostic fee if you can believe that.

This has been going on for some time, mileage is just turned 8000 so not high.

Dealership sold us a car with a defective battery...

What to do?

Yup that battery is dead as a doornail.

So much for the PDI, clearly they didn't care one bit when you parted with big money.

Do you have a picture of the battery that's fitted so we can suggest you a nice replacement?

I know, it's so annoying...I'm beyond words...its just a battery ...I'm not after a new engine...

This looks like the code, but nice if you can confirm.

Hi, it's a 2019 1.0 with the DSG box

I've had a look before and I remember I think 45 amp hour but I could be wrong.

I bet your right as the cranking amps is 320..spot on, thank you

Post back when you can find out, also does your car have stop/start?

If you do, the you should make sure to connect your negative charger clamp to the correct earth point for charging is all, not direct to battery terminal as it cannot "read" the input.

Hi, yes it does have stop start, when I charged the battery I disconnected the battery cables but next time I'll do as you say..thanks .

sometimes disconnected. When I tried using the ctek batrery repair function.

https://www.tayna.co.uk/

If you slap your reg into there, you can check what they offer for your car.

The OEM battery will most likely be Varta as seen here...

The dash will light up like an Xmas tree, but usually full left lock/right lock will train away the usual suspect.

If the Ah rating changes for the battery, then you will ideally need to adapt the battery with VCDS (forum has a list)
Then once you have adapted and cleared the faults, you can put it on a nice long charge cycle.

Thanks. I'll buy exactly the same. That left and right bit, reset the steering angle sensor by any chance...

Yup!  I didn't want to apply all the technical terms 😄

Feel free to post the link to the battery you find on the Tanya site, of course follow their advice about checking measurements.

Back on charge this morning, I couldn't find my ctek charger so I'm using this thing from Aldi 😂

I'll just get a new battery, I shall have a look over the weekend, I sent in an email to Skoda service at Dumfries asking for a person in charge details so I can take it up with them.....silence 🤫 ...no response....again!

Done with them !

All I'll say is that I am sure there are some decent Skoda garages ....and unfortunately some that clearly don't give a toss...and I'll leave it at that I think.

Take some battery dimension measurements, then do the lookup on Tanya with your reg.  Then you should be sure that the replacment will fit, the tray at the bottom should be adjustable if you went for a larger battery.

Good luck on getting this sorted, shame that Skoda dealers let you down so poorly.

it's beyond words for me but best to just sort it out ourselves. They have been named and shamed so to speak...thanks for your help, your a top guy 🍻

Battery issue! ha tell me about it. I bought mine during  lockdown, stop start worked for about 2 weeks. Been back to dealers many times. They actually charge the battery for you then test it. NO FAULTS FOUND  surprisingly!!!1 After a day the stop/start packs up again.

Tried to trace  if the battery had been charged as per Skoda policy for cars left on forecourt.......Of course  it was charged!

I use a dashcam. that whats stopping the stop/start, your leaving  it  on all the time and the battery is draining. NO IM NOT. been there done that.

Stop start is useless anyway but now fuel has gone through the roof it might be nice  if it worked, anyway if something is fitted to a vehicle then whatever it is it should work!

Yeah they cannot test a battery right after charging it, that's never going to be an accurate assessment of the state of charge.  Has to be left a minimum of 2-3hrs, ideally overnight IMHO.

I dare say yours is dead by the sounds of it, and now it's dead/dying you will use more fuel for the car running the alternator full time.

Might be an idea to abandon dealer and fit your own new battery.

That logic is valid for vehicles made in Japan and Korea but not anywhere else.

Quick update.

The matter has been reported to Skoda UK which may have its customer care centre abroad.

I did hear back from Dumfries Skoda. Apparently the service advisor I was dealing with wasn't at work, I don't know if that's the reason none of my emails were answered, my thoughts are that's unlikely TBH. Dumfries Skoda is a micro dealership and I would of thought my emails would of been picked up by somone else...my personal thoughts are nobody gives a toss. It really is a shambles but I've sorted the battery problem myself. Bottom line is you never really know how good a dealership is or how good is the warranty ....until you need it, and then you discover the dealership isn't up to standard and the warranty....is ...well....hopium...be warned

Interesting, I've been dealing via email and the people  corresponding back to me seem to be from foreign lands.

Next time I get an email I'll ask where they are.

Do that.

because a person with a keyboard can be anyplace around the world.

And Communication Managers and Resolution managers at Skoda / VW UK need not know that much about cars or much else.

Default is deny, put off, rubber you, put you back in the hands of the dealership, wear you down.

eg.
