CAVE 1.4 twincharge piston help

Featured Replies

Long time lurker... But now I need some help

my 1.4 CAVE on my 6J Cupra 2011 has given up the ghost, kaput, done, had it.

Next to no compression in cylinder 3 and low on cylinder 2.

The garage I bought it from will change all the pistons at their cost. I understand that their is a fundamental issue with these pistons and I fear I won't get an upgraded part

I wonder if anyone has a part number for the upgraded pistons or recommend which pistons to go for.

Many thanks......

Bump!

Thanks for the Bump.

I understand that the part number is  03c107065bf and the preferred brand to be Kolbenschmid

Can anyone confirm that?

Welcome.

I would not have a rebuild by anyone not very familiar with CAVE 1.4 TSI's.     Not have diagnostics done by anyone not familiar with them either.

I would rather buy a Short Engine or a Base Engine.

?

How many miles has you car done?

?

Did the car ever have the Brather Mod and Software update & when?

I doubt you will get away with just new piston, rings, scrapers.

?

Has a borescope been used yet?

& you need to see the state of the valves.

A rebuild would need to include updated Oil Spray jets.

Differences, CAVE / CTHE.

Thanks for the response!

Car has done around 60,000 miles.

I bought the car 3 months ago, there is no documentation of  a breather mod nor a software update. How could I tell if it has had the breather mod?

The head is off the block, so no borescope needed. bores seem of, as do the valves. Piston 3 only had 2 bar of compression and piston 2 not much better.

i bought it from a performance/rare second hand dealer, who had taken the car in as an exchange, they re a legit place but don't have aa specialisation in any car.  Since the car is still under warranty, they have the burden to fix it. This is where it gets a but  muddy though; they have the responsibility to fix the car, thats it. They have offered the following 3 options:

1 - a the new pistons, rings, cam chain and all the necessary gaskets. They take all the costs, I will make sure they use the upgraded pistons and try to get them to do the oil jets at the same time

2 - a second hand full engine, we would share the costs of the engine, they stand for the work.  I am not interested in this option of an unknown engine.

3 - a rebuilt block and head, we would share the costs of the engine, they stand for the work

I am leaning towards option 1.

I am not shy of doing any work myself, I built this

So an option is to do it myself

Thanks again of the reply!

SEAT UK Customer Services or any SEAT Main Dealer have on the system the Service, Warranty & Service Campaign history done at Main Dealers,

like if any Oil Consumption tests were done, Breather Mod / Software Updates & the DSG Service Campaign '34F7' if carried out.

As to your Warranty now that is going to be down the the Dealer to have your car 'Fit for purpose' & how they go about it.

They will need to be guaranteeing the work or whoever they have do it will need to.

All the best with it.

These are the pistons that will be used  - I assume these to be the most recent version?

So things have taken a turn!

I am now being offered a second hand engine or a rebuilt engine (which i need to pay the difference on).

I want to try and make sure the rebuilt engine isa s good as it can be.

I have read several times about the so called "breather mod" but I cant find any specifications of exactly what this is.

Any one have any idea?

@Coopercupra        I bumped a breather mod thread for you.

there is a post with a picture there from @OzFabia, he had the Type 2 mod done by Skoda in Australia.

Part Numbers on page 8.

Water Pump part numbers & belts....

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/415178-fabia-mk2-vrs-twincharger-water-pump-part-numbers-supercharger-clutch

A SEAT Dealership or SEAT UK can tell you the part Numbers for the Breather Mod.

I would not bother with it.

I would just get your engine rebuilt and then get a Stage 1 remap rather than the SEAT / VW Software - engine management.

?

Have you seen this, Part 1 & 2 ?

Thanks for that! You I have read lucifers guides. Thanks

So as it turns out it will be a new renovated engine. it is built and open the shelf at an engine builders.

All genuine VW parts and upgraded Pistons, rings, all bearings, chain, tensioner, cylinder head is skimmed, new valves cut a and seated and more.

Seems like the oil jets have been done. is that such a big issue?

I will keep my original injectors ( i am not sure if they have been replaced), is it worth uprating these too?

Cheers

Craig

Out of interest can you tell me if it's a Cupra Bocanegra, Dakota red starting SG11? My son owned one but got shot of it when the DSG went in our Fabia vRS, he was frightened same thing would happen to him. Engine wise it was sound, but getting close to the 60k mark when he got shot of it.

Christos at RTMG is a very good man to speak to when it comes to rebuilding these engines, as is skoffski of course. Christos can be found on the Skoda Fabia mk2 vRS owners group page on Facebook.

Nope! Located in Sweden, so not your old car.

Hi all, I would be interested in hearing from anyone here who like me has had scoring in the bores, bored out the block and fitted oversized pistons. Mine now will not run on idle when hot and shuts down cylinder 1. It's continuously hunting like it has an air leak, but doesn't. I'm guessing that I'm going to néed some kind of map as the air mass will be slightly different? Anyone out there had this issue?

Are you getting any fault codes, it should be logging a code if it's shutting down a cylinder. Intuition suggests you have a hot piston crown on number 1, a blocked oil squirter jet is possible after a bottom end rebuild, the jets lubricate the little end and cool the piston crown and are VERY important.
