DSG fault, possibly being ripped off by garage

Hi All, I've not posted for a good while, but now I need help.

My wife's DSG box (DQ250 7 speed) has lost 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th gears.

I put it into a garage and they have said that the clutch needs replacing, it has also contaminated the gearbox, so this will need a rebuild, in turn the gearbox has contaminated the metatronic unit, add to this the wiring harness needs replacing.

Is this even a remotely possibility, as in my eyes how can a dry clutch contaminate the gearbox, and in turn the metatronic unit, as all three are separate units in themselves ?

I don't see how they can know most (maybe any?) of this without stripping the transmission.

@Mark2LTDI?

Is the car at an Automatic Gearbox Specialist that has all the gear and more than ideas?

First and important is it a Wet Clutch 7 speed DSG or a DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch dsg?

A DQ250 DSG is not a 7 speed Dry Clutch DSG.   *6 & 7 Speed Wet Clutch DSG's have one oil and it is in the box and the MCU.*

What car / engine does your wife have?

What age is it and how many miles has it done?

So does your wife have with a DQ200 DSG 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG?

These DQ200 DSG's have 2 oils in them in the Box and in the MCU.

If it is from 2009-2012 was it part of Service Campaign '34F7' done since 2014 and did it get the oil change and Software update,

or if a 2013-2015 service campaign '34H5' started in 2017 and a software update. Done because of possible heat and pressure issues and leaks / failures.

'34H5' if outstanding does not always show here.

Hi All

Thanks for the replies.

In my original post I said it was a DQ250, it's not, it's a DQ200 fitted in a 2012 VW Touran 1.6TDI with 61K, it had a DSG oil change by VW at 40k.

The car is in a garage that specialise in transmissions (auto and manual), but they use a separate company to deal with bookings and customer related work, it was this company that told me the wrong info on the faults. I'm now in contact with the garage directly and the tech dealing with car.

The clutch pack is faulty, and gear selectors are warn. So it's getting a new clutch pack, gear selectors and and the metatronic unit calibrated.

@Mark2LTDIHow much are they going to be charging for this?

It did not require a DSG OIl Change at 40,000 miles.  People do have Oil changes. usually because someone says they need them, even though they do not. *THAT IS A RIP OFF*

There is no service recommendations or schedule for a DQ200 DSG and never has been.

(the 2012 world wide RECALL which excluded Europe did have the Synthetic oil changed to mineral and a software update. That was Service Campaign 34F7 done on DQ200's 2009-2012.)

Was '34F7' done on your wife's car sometime after 2014. Is there a sticker in the Spare tyre well.?

I've no idea if oil change was he Service Campaign 34F7 as the car is in the garage and the paperwork just states DSG oil change.

The quoted cost is £2400 as a worst case, it may be less.
